One night with Ghost

“Have you ever seen any ghost in your real life?”. This is a common question but the positive answer of this answer is really strange. Even if you say yes people won’t believe you and even they laugh at you. Same thing has happened to me too when I tried to narrate my stories to my friends, relatives and even to my students. But what I am going to share here with you is my real story that took place when I was a High School Student. But it is not easy to believe such incidence unless we face such situation in our real life.

It was the incidence when I was selected from My school to attend National Integration camp organized by NCC west Bengal, India. From Darjeeling Dist. there were 10 students and from our School we were three students. It was a summer day of 1986 . When we left Kalimpong Bus stand it was already 12 O’clock and we were excited to reach Darjeeling, as it was My first visit to Darjeeling and for us it was quite exciting because we were going to attend National Level Program. we felt our selves proud to be selected for the program. When we moved toward Darjeeling by a Taxi cab ,On the way we found the road was blocked. All the vehicles were in the Que. later on we knew that the road was blocked because of land slide and it could take couple of hours to clear up the debris from the road. so we had no alternative but to wait. we just come out from the car and walked around the Place, we saw beautiful tea Garden surrounded all side by the hills and down on the valley Teesta River flowing like a serpent.

Around seven  o’ clock the road cleared up and we moved forward and reached Darjeeling around ten o’ clock. It was quite and dark all the places and we were new to the place and had no any idea where to go. Most of Hotels and shops were closed and we were hungry. We had to go even further from there, because our destination was Lebong Army Camp. we had to report there before five o clock and it was already 10:30 P.M. when we were searching any means to go further we found a taxi going upto North Point School. But our destination was even six, seven miles far from there. we had no other option to go ahead so we went up to North Point school and the taxi Driver moved toward his house leaving us on the way. He also suggested us to go on foot because it was hard to get any transportation. so we also decided to move forward but we were hungry and tired. we wanted to have something before we march ahead.

when we were thinking what to do next we saw an old lady walking along the road carrying a load in her back. we requested her to show the path. she nodded her head and moved away, we decided to follow her. she was old but very energetic than we all, she was moving faster than we. Every time we tried to reach her she moved quickly and we remained back all the time. she had carried a small load and we were loaded with heavy bags and bedding. But she was so strange even in that old age she could walk faster than we young guys. In reality she was not walking she looked as if she was floating on the hilly narrow road.

After following her more than an hour she stopped and pointed us to go up hills where there were few twinkling lights. Before we asked her anything she had already moved away or she disappeared. we even could not get chance to thanked her. when we moved up hills we found it was our camp site where we had to report before dusk. Everywhere it was dead silence and nobody was there. when we moved closer to a camp we saw an old ruined house. when we knocked at the door an army  came out and asked us to follow him. Mean time we explained all the incidence why we arrived late. He didn’t say anything but he took us to our camp site . We thanked to God and the lady who helped us to reach our destination safe and good condition, though we were about to collapse on the floor. He pointed us to live in a room which was covered by dust and spiders webs. we had no option than to live there. he then said us to live there and report on the office next day. we were so tired and had no energy to do anything. so cleaned up the place and tried to arrange our beds to sleep. One of my friend took out the food that he had brought from home and we shared and ate together. After a while we all slept

Suddenly my friend Partha shouted at me  to get up. He was looking so panic. when we got up and saw it was already dawn and we could see the places in deem light. when we saw around it was not an army camp but a grave yard. we were in the funeral house and there was no houses which we had seen last night. Everywhere  we saw only the graves. Even there was no any army personal. we realized then that we had spent a night with ghost in a grave yard. later on when we rushed away from the graveyard and reached our camp site, we were told that we had spent a night in dangerous situation, where such type of    incidence were common and many time people found unconscious there. It was our great fortune that we all were safe and well even in such a dangerous situation.

Next day we were taken from there to Ghoom Pahar where our training camp had been shifted. there we met all other friends coming from different states of India. We spent there 15 days attending different adventurous activities. We even climbed on the rock called famous “Bhale Dhunga” sponsored by Darjeeling Mountaineering  Institute. we went for hiking, trekking and deed many adventurous activities, but for all than adventurous experience was to spend whole night with Ghost in a grave yard.
